Consultation and preparation

Everything starts with a consultation. A licensed medical provider (APRN) reviews your history, diagnoses, current medications, and goals to determine whether IV ketamine is a reasonable option for you. This is also your chance to ask questions and understand the evidence, benefits, and risks.

In the days before treatment, you'll receive preparation instructions. These often include guidance on eating lightly beforehand, reviewing medications, arranging a ride home, and setting aside quiet time to rest afterward. Going in rested and unhurried makes a real difference.

What happens during your infusion

  1. 1

    Arrival & settling in

You're shown to a private, calm room and settle into a comfortable reclined chair. Your provider reviews the plan and answers last questions.

  2. 2

    Monitoring begins

Your vital signs are checked and monitored throughout. Many patients use an eye mask and calming music to turn inward.

  3. 3

    The infusion

A measured, low dose is administered intravenously over roughly 45–60 minutes. Most people feel relaxed and dream-like — not unconscious.

  4. 4

    Winding down

As the infusion ends, the effects fade within a short time. You'll rest until you feel steady and clear.

Optional IV add-ons — such as a glutathione push or an NAD+ injection — can be combined with your ketamine session for an additional fee. If you're interested, ask your provider during your consultation and they'll tailor the plan to your goals.

What it may feel like

Experiences vary widely. Many people describe a floating, dream-like state, shifts in perception, a sense of distance from worries, or emotional processing. Some have vivid imagery; others simply feel deeply relaxed. Temporary dissociation is common and expected — you remain safe and monitored the entire time.

If something feels uncomfortable

Your provider is right there. Dosing is controlled and adjustable, and the environment is designed for comfort. Telling your care team how you feel — before and during — helps them tailor the experience for you.

Recovery, aftercare, and integration

You should not drive for the rest of the day, so plan for a ride home. Most people feel back to baseline within a few hours and prefer a calm, low-stimulation evening. Hydration and rest help.

"Integration" is how you make sense of the experience and carry it forward. Gentle reflection, journaling, and follow-up with a therapist can help translate insights into lasting change. For many patients, ketamine works best as one part of a broader plan that includes ongoing therapy and care.

Common Questions About Your Session

Plan for roughly an hour to ninety minutes at the office. The infusion itself usually runs about 45–60 minutes, plus time to settle in beforehand and to recover afterward before you head home.
